| Red Rose also operated
some Optare StarRider bodied Mercedes, pictures of which are in the MCW & Optare section.

N784JBM, the 711D is seen again, this time in South Oxhey on the W20 Watford town service.
The hint of decoration in the window shows it is a busy Saturday before Christmas 98.

Mercedes Vario R796GSF with Plaxton Beaver 2 bodywork has not been the most successful of vehicles
purchased new. Within only a few weeks of acquisition it demolished the front garden of a Watford
councillor - due to a mechanical defect - and the bus has been very troublesome in service. It is often
found, as here, on the Bushy Bell BB1 service. It is resting at the Bushey Otter terminus. |

Acquired in 1996 were three UVG bodied Mercedes, two 709Ds and this 711D, together with a Dennis Dart.
The 711 is seen as the stop interestingly
described as 'East Claydon Tree' - which is the rather fuzzy affair to the right of the bus. The picture
was taken on Saturday December 27th 1997. On its next run to Bicester, the vehicle's clutch failed
(the bus is manual) resulting in a rather bumpy ride for the passengers until the vehile ended the day
prematurely resting at the back of the yard. Below one of the Merc trio is seen at Berryfields heading
for Bicester when new and yet to receive fleet names.

The former Bristol Bristol LH of Routemaster Travel rests with an ex North Western Mercedes 609
(D217SKD) of Red Rose in the yard at Aylesbury. The LH was frequently used on hire to Red Rose,
particularly on market day services in the Leighton Buzzard area.
