CDMX Purple VW Pacoman 0012493
Since returning from Mexico City many people have been surprised to learn of the number of Volkswagen buses in the city. At the West Riding Bus Group's Gathering and Running Day today I was talking to the owner of one of the few remaining large UK built Volkswagen buses. He owned the coach seated Optare City Pacer of Yorkshire Rider, that sat only 25. These Mexican buses certainly seat more than that, but are not much bigger than a non-MPD Dennis Dart. Most seen in the city were in this purple and white livery with a variety of body styles. This one is by Pacoman and has a flavour of Caetano Enigma about it. It is seen at Tasquena near the Southern Coach Terminal, where there is also a light rail service to Xochimilco, famous for its colourful gondolas on Mexico City's little Venice. In the backgroun are a couple of, what are thought to be, secondhand New Flyer trolleybuses acquired from North America. Other trolleys in the city were slightly more modern Mitsubishi buses, which ousted many more secondhand American machines, but the Mitsubishi buses must be pushing twenty years old by now. The trunk route from Tasquena north to the Coach Station on the opposite side of the city uses the Mitsubishis.
