East Kent Daimler Fleetline Park Royal RFN953G
NBC Poppy Red lived on in 1999. Amongst the last doubledeckers purchased before NBC standards took control of the vehicle specifications for the East Kent fleet, were these Park Royal bodied Daimler Fleetlines - East Kent having waited some time before deciding what could successfully follow its fleet of AEC deckers. The vehicle is seen here in the company of others at the Cryers Hill yard near High Wycombe. The National is believed to be ex Stagecoach East Kent. The Fleetline, RFN853G, is now preserved in traditional East Kent livery.

East Kent ECW Leyland Atlantean 7009
Under NBC ownership East Kent's deckers were still an interesting selection. Highbridge ECW Leyland Atlantean AN68s figured in 1976 and inevitably fleetnumbers made an appearance. This is 7009 (JJG9P).

East Kent Bristol VRTSL3 ECW 7046
Then along came the NBC standard Bristol VRTSL3 - except East Kent had ECW's rare highbridge variant, with the wide white waistband all round the bus. Here is 7046 (MFN46R) on route to Hastings.

East Kent Bristol VRTSL3 Willowbrook 7020
As if highbridge VRs were not unusual enough, how about Willowbrook bodied ones? East Kent shared NBC deliveries of these boxy deckers with Northern. Cardiff City also bought some. They did have a reputation for leaking in the wet which is perhaps why some of them ended up as open toppers on the London Sightseeing Tour. Here is 7020 (PJJ20S).

East Kent Bristol VRTSL3 Willowbrook 7987
White band not deep enough? Then Willowbrook bodied VR 7987 (TFN987T) is an early example of a breakaway from the strict NBC corporate style.
