Leyland National demonstrator FRM499K
We have again dipped into the 35mm colour slide archive for this week's picture from the 1972 Earls Court Commercial Motor Show. It features dual door Leyland National demonstrator FRM499K. The bus is seen outside the Exhibition Hall in the demonstration park. It has chassis number 10, the last of ten pre-production prototypes. Of the ten, numbers 3 and 4 entered service with London Country as LN1 & LN2 (KPA101/2K), number 5 with Cumberland as 350 (ERM35K) and number 9 as Sunderland District 1K (MCN151K). Number 6 was exported to South Africa and number 8 never saw the light of day. The first two were registered, DAO251K and DRM589K, the latter certainly did some demonstration work, but aside from the four that went straight into service it appears none ended up permanently with operators, but FRM499K survives in preservation. Mathematicians amongst you will have worked out that 2022 sees the 50th anniversary of the type and we will be celebrating with a Leyland National display at SHOWBUS50 in September.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
Ideally pictures should be 732 pixels wide and no more than 100kB.
