On standby at Sydney Airport was older Mercedes O405 3244 (MO 3244) with a virtually standard PMC Galvastress body as used in the main STA bus fleet.

Proving that having a spare bus on stand by is not a bad idea, here is 3244 at Circular Quay, about to return to the Airport on the 300.

 Back in 1989 the PMC bus style Mercedes maintained the Airport Express, to be replaced by the PMC 160 coaches that were introduced the following year. This one is seen at Circular Quay along with older Mercedes O305/PMC 2543 (MO2543). |

Whereas the bus fleet Ansair Orana bodied vehicles are on Scania, MAN or Volvo chassis, just two low floor Mercedes O405 operated on the Airport Express. Mercedes 3406 (MO3406) is about to depart on the 300 to the city. Both 300 and 350 served the Domestic Terminal on route, which is adjacent, but a fare was payable for the transfer.
