A Zuidtangent arrives at Schipol in Autumn 2004. The service was first mooted by HTM as a light rail project, but it was feared the track would not be ready in time for the Floriade flower festival which took place along the route in 2002. The dedicated busway has been carefully designed so it meets all light rail standards so a conversion to light rail at some future date is an option. Plans were for Zuidtangent to extend to the south-east tip of IJburg in 2008 which could then justify the rail upgrade.
