 To be sure of a cable car ride, the California line is the one to go for, it provides more of a conventional service used by locals rather than tourists. The cars used are, unlike the popular routes from Powell and Market, double ended and capable of acrrying more passengers. It may be that some of the curves on the other route are too tight for the longer cars or the extra weight too much for the cable, otherwise it would be sensible to use the larger capacity cars on the busier routes. California car 57 is seen just after leaving the Market Street terminus in July 2002. |
