Back in the seventies, M&D became the home for comparative trials of the new doubledeck models then
emerging on to the market to rival the Leyland based products. Five or so Dennis Dominators, MCW
Metrobuses and Volvo Ailsas arrived, of which this - LKP385P - is one of the latter, with the almost
inevitable Alexander bodywork, which typically adorned this Scottish product. The Ailsas had the shortest
stay with M&D, but it is nice that this one has survived to be displayed in the rains of North Weald.
The livery is original M&D, yet the buses were delivered in NBC livery!

Another imposter really, this Burlingham bodied PD2 was originally Ribble 1466, and would probably feel
happier in Ribble red, and a little less cream paint, thank you! It found its way down to M&D as a driver
trainer and has masqueraded as an M&D vehicle ever since. It too is enjoying a refreshing shower at
North Weald - amazing, we thought it only rained at EFE Showbus!

In the early post war years M&D acquired a substantial fleet of Bristols prior to
nationalisation preventing this BET fleet acquiring more. Bristol K6A DH159 (HKE867) is seen alongside
preserved AEC Reliance SO277 (277DKT) at the Maidstone Corporation centenary rally in July 2004.
