649 (MUF488) was one of a batch of ten Beadle bodied buses purchased in 1953. What was even more
unusual was their semi-integral construction, built on Leyland TS8 components. 649 is enjoying
the Southampton sunshine in July 2000.

672 (272AUF) was from Southdown's first batch of 36 ft long buses. These Leyland Leopard PSU3s
had Marshall bodywork, and this one is seen in Worthing.

Willowbrook 45 seat bodywork sits on this late PSU3 Leopard chassis of Southdown 199 (KUF199F).
Delivered at the end of the true Southdown era. Subsequent deliveries were Bristol RELLs, albeit in
green and cream, but not long after that gave way to NBC green and white, before a brief respite in the
early days of privatisation, before the Stagecoach stripes wiped even the company name away. 199
lives on as a reminder of halcyon days and is seen at North Weald in 99 too.

Marshall bodywork again, but this time on a Bristol RESL chassis. Southdown prepared itself for the
absorption of Brighton, Hove and District by taking Bristols into its fleet in the late sixties, though
this one arrived after the BH&D acquisition. Now preserved, 481 is another Southampton visitor in 2000.

Six years on and 481 is seen with appropriate destination display at the 2006 Alton Rally which was a scorcher!
