The red brick St James depot in Northampton oozes municipal pride from a bygone era. On this Sunday in late 2003 the place is shut up with no vehicles in sight and only a handful of First buses on service in the town.

Volvo Citybus 286 was one of the few doubledeckers in service on that Sunday in 2003. Stagecoach had more operating, including Olympian/Alexander 16222 (R702DNH).

Manchester standard 6479 (ANA629Y) transferred to First Northampton in 2002. The Leyland Atlantean has Northern Counties bodywork and was clearly acquired for school contract work. It is in "Barbie 2" livery but without the magenta fade.
