With Connex and Yarra taking charge of the operations, the State Government were branding the collective services as "Metlink". A few trams and buses were painted in Metlink colours in April 2004, though with Yarra Trams livery about to cover the entire tram fleet, it did not look like the Metlink identity would spread across the whole city.

Melbourne M>Tram Siemens Combino & C class Citadi
The French built C Class Citadi trams were in service with Yarra Trams in the winter of 2002. This picture in April 2004 gives a hint of things to come when Yarra Trams was poised to take over M>Tram, Combino 3529 is seen with Citadis 3025.

The first day of Yarra Trams operation of former M>Tram routes and Combino 3531 turns up at Luna Park, St Kilda in full Yarra colours, albeit on M>Tram base white rather than Yarra silver grey. The Combinos had not been noted on the 16 before, the route normally being the preserve of the Z class. The enlarged operation subsequently adopted the white base colour.
