Stagecoach Auckland MAN & train
Auckland Station is an imposing building but now converted into backpackers accommodation. Alongside, this more spartan structure is used for the daily overnight train to Wellington, one or two other equally as regular long distance services and a small network of urban trains. As can be seen access to the local buses is very good. The station is nonetheless about a mile from downtown. A low floor MAN is awaiting departure. Stagecoach had hoped to acquire some rail operations in NZ and failing to do so probably contributed to their sale of the NZ operations in 2005.

Stagecoach Auckland MAN Designline
This 1995 Designline bodied MAN 11.190 seen when 10 years old. The UK - and Hong Kong - Stagecoach liveries had changed to softer curves rather than stripes, but the "seventies Starsky & Hutch" style stripes still seemed quite at home in time warped New Zealand in 2005.

Stagecoach Auckland MAN contrasts
The older MAN buses are SL202s with Coachwork International bodies. The Stagecoach liveried one with white window surrounds is believed to have been inherited from Cityline, an operator taken over with the Wellington operations, prior to the Auckland acquisition.

Stagecoach Auckland MAN 22.240 PT7116
MAN 1128 (PT7116) is seen here in Auckland Bus Station. It is one of 39 impressive MAN 22.240 buses with Coachwork International bodywork on 3 axle chassis.

Stagecoach Auckland MAN 22.240 Coachwork International
Coachwork International 53 seat bodied 1106 (PG8706) is a MAN 22.240 dating from 1990. The length of the vehicle is accentuated in this broadside view in Auckland's revamped Bus Station in April 2005. Clearly the leg room inside must be reasonably generous with UK standards often accommodating 53 in 11 metre coaches, let alone buses.
