Transferred from fellow NBC subsidiary Northern General 2177 (GCN807G) is this Alexander bodied Daimler Fleetline. These buses entered service in Northern's dark red livery, allegedly with M&D scroll fleetnames. It is seen here as 5005 in NBC leaf green and white.
M&D itself preferred Leyland Atlanteans to Daimler Fleetlines. Atlantean 5716 (FKM716L) is an MCW bodied example seen arriving at SHOWBUS at Hillingdon in the late seventies. It is followed by one of the Ailsas from the NBC trial batch of five based with M&D.
Sister vehicle 5715 (FKM715L) is seen in Victoria having performed the rare task of working a National Express service from Kent.
At Showbus 2005, 5385 (LKP385P), the preserved Ailsa, is seen with two other preserved Volvo Ailsas. Helping 5385 frame the unique lowheight Ailsa from Derby, is West Midlands PTE 4738 (JOV738P).
In 2008 5385 and WMPTE 4738 were joined by Sunray Travel's Ailsa, A972YSX. This Ailsa has the later style of Alexander body and was new to Alexander (Fife) as FRA72, but came to Sunray from Cardiff where it was 452 in their large Ailsa fleet.
