Marshall bodywork was the choice on this Bristol RESL6L chassis rather than the Bristol's normal ECW bodywork. Southdown prepared itself for the absorption of Brighton, Hove and District by taking Bristols into its fleet in the late sixties, though this one arrived after the BH&D acquisition. Now preserved, 481 was another Southampton visitor in 2000.

 Sister vehicle 490 (TCD490J) had also entered preservation and is seen here at North Weald in July 2011. |
 In 2014 490 was displayed at SHOWBUS international and is seen arriving at Duxford.
