Black & White Motorways of Cheltenham was a coach operator of distinction. It specialised in long distance express services and formed alliances with other operators, chief of which was an organisation known as Associated Motorways. In many ways the operation was a forerunner of National Express and its operations centred on what is these days known as a 'hub' at Cheltenham. 2pm at Black & White's St Margaret's Coach Station could see coaches in many colours departing for all points of the compass. On its way to Gloucester is this early Plaxton Panorama Leyland Leopard - 4880DF - seen at Langley, just turning off the A4 to reach Slough's coach pick-up point. A Green Line RC is heading for London. |

247 (AAD247B) is an AEC Reliance, with Harrington coachwork, seen at the same venue as 240 above. This particular coach - of which B&W only had a batch of 5 - is captured in a beautiful EFE model. The following year a further 5 Leopard/Harringtons were delivered, but of the 36 feet variety.

A third B&W coach, and a third type - this time the rare Daimler Roadliner, a model which enjoyed mixed success. The coachwork is the later style of Plaxton Panorama delivered on 10 Leopards the previous year. 297 (NAD297F) is seen in Newbury Bus Station with an earlier Leopard / Panorama in tow (not literally!) |
