Southdown 731 is a preserved decker from a different era, delivered new in NBC leaf green and white,
Southdown was one of the few fleets to operate both the NBC standards, the Bristol/ECW VR and
the Atlantean/Park Royal. 731 (SCD731N) is one of the latter and as its blind at Cobham 2001 shows,
it was put to work on the prestigious Coastliner route when new in 1974.

Southdown's Bristol intake included VRs, with dual door versions
for BH&D operations. This is an early flat front Mark I model, which, like so many vehicles, looks
attractive in Southdown apple green and cream. The bus 510 (UUF110J) appeared at Showbus in Duxford
whilst with its subsequent owner, Elseys of Gosberton, in their blue and white livery. It has recently been
restored and is seen here operating services at the Alton Bus Rally in July 2000.

This nostalgic colourful scene at Pool Valley captures all three common Brighton liveries of the time: Southdown's apple green and cream on the Queen Mary in the centre, Brighton, Hove & District's Tilling Red and cream with Brighton Corporation's French blue and white.
