Tram Cafe
Former Melbourne Class W tram 764 has found a new lease of life converted into a coffee bar at the Wiliam Angliss Institute on La Trobe Street near Flagstaff Gardens in the heart of the city. A more famous Class W, 907, joined the cast of Neighbours in 2018 to fulfill a similar role and we featured its delivery to the Nunawadding Studio. Supposedly owned by Neighbours stalwart Dr Karl Kennedy it features every epsiode on the new Amazon Freevee/Australian Channel 10 show in the opening credits. Meanwhile a third Class W Yarra Trams on the free City Circle trundles by outside, unfortunately the railings and gates around the Tram Cafe prevent a good picture of 764 with a City Circle - and sadly these days the City Circle is a rare site, only operating clockwise round the route and is often one of the first services to be cancelled if there are any shortages. On the plus side the Tram Cafe is well appointed, attractively set, with friendly staff and serves excellent coffee at a very reasonable price.
We have thousands of pictures to choose from for our Picture of the Week but you are welcome to send in your own. If we do not feature it here, it may appear later in our picture gallery.
Ideally pictures should be 732 pixels wide and no more than 100kB.
