Reading Buses Alexander Dennis Enviro400City Windsor Line 735
After much snticipation Reading Buses launched its new fleet of Alexander Dennis Enviro400CITY buses on July 28th. The former Green Line route from Windsor to London was taken over from First Berkshire a while back and been operated by buses in a mix of liveries. Some in Reading Buses generic livery with Green Line fleetnames added, some in Newbury Buses livery, one in the new Thames Valley livery and some in actual dedicated Green Line livery, not disimilar to that of the new fleet. Except they are not Green Lines! Arriva operate the other two remaining Green Line routes, the Luton Airport 757 and the north London orbital 724, which, until recently, has been operated by buses in Arriva blue. Arriva has decided to claim exclusivity on the Green Line name, so although the new buses are unmistakeably Green Line they are branded as the Windsor Line. The old Windsor - London service used to be routes 704 and 705 continuing across London to Tunbridge Wells and Sevenoaks respectively. The Kent link has long been history and the route has now developed into two variants which both serve the attractions of Windsor and Legoland. The 702, as seen here, links Bracknell with London (Victoria) and the 703 Legoland to Heathrow T5. Seen on Tuesday is 735 (GL23LGO) arrving in Slough around 1030h for a well loaded trip to the capital. The bus features increased legroom, tables, seatback wireless charging, a glazed staircase and air chill upstairs, though my USB charging port at the front seat upstairs was not working, but at a different upstairs seat on 735 on the return trip all was good. Whilst jointly the routes are being marketed as Windsor Line, the 702 is branded, as seen here, as Londonline and the 703 will follow shortly as Flightline.
