South Yorkshire PTE MCW Metrobus 1886 & Leyland National 1029
Two buses in Sheffield Bus Station. Nearest the camera is 1886 (JHE186W), a fairly standard MCW Metrobus, but next to it the 11.3m Leyland National has a more interesting tale to tell. The bus, 1029 (NTV729M), was new to Nottingham City Transport as 729 and deployed on the pioneering free bus services 77 and 88 in the city, in the era of the Lilac Leopard Park & Ride services. Now it was pioneering in another way, the bus had visited Reeve Burgess and a wheel chair lift was installed in the centre doorway to make it accessible for disabled, as such it was deployed on the City Clipper service as seen here. Later the bus was sold to Lincolnshire Road Car.

South Yorkshire PTE Leyland National 3
A more conventional Leyland National in the fleet was 3 (YWJ103M), a dual door 10.3m version.

South Yorkshire PTE Leyland National 3
Seen a few years after delivery 3 was in a prototype South Yorkshire PTE livery, with a much paler brown skirt and a small circular fleet logo. Large stylised "South Yorkshire" names were later added to the sides before the livery was standardised as seen above.

South Yorkshire PTE Leyland National B 11 & 14
Totally unstandardised livery wise, but highly standardised for the National Bus Company were these two examples of a batch of 10.3m Leyland National B series buses in NBC leaf green. The buses were obviously diverted from an NBC fleet order. This pair became South Yorkshire PTE 11 and 14 (AAK111 & 114T). The batch (5 to 14) soon acquired standard SYPTE colours.

South Yorkshire PTE Leyland National 83
An earlier purchase was 10.3m National 83 (JDT437N), part of a batch of eight, 81-88, which were used on the 500 City Clipper service, a second of the batch can be seen behind. Two of the buses - not 83 - were rebuilt later by East Lancs as Greenway models.
